Arbitect was created by Dr Gary Winn, a chartered architect, building engineer and arboriculturist with an academic and practice background in tree-building relationships. He offers a unique professional service that combines architectural and arboricultural knowledge. Based in Solihull, Warwickshire, he is believed to be the UK’s only architect who is also a qualified arboriculturist. 

 

His bipartite position enables an understanding of tree-building issues from both an architects’ and arboriculturists’ perspective. Typically, he is approached by architects or homeowners that have made a planning application near to trees and the planning authority has requested an arboricultural survey in relation to BS5837:2012. Where tree-building conflict arises, Arbitect utilise a tree-building system that can mitigate such conflict, meaning tree and building can co-exist without detriment to each other. This distinctive combination enables us to integrate trees into your architectural designs and satisfy planning authority requirements.
